The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida International Golf and Country Club is hosting the IBB Independence Golf and Tennis Tournament 2024, attracting over 250 golfers from across Nigeria and beyond to commemorate the country’s 64th Independence Day.
This vibrant celebration promises to showcase sportsmanship, national unity, and camaraderie.
According to Club Captain Ibrahim Babayo, the tournament aims to highlight the positive aspects of Nigeria, despite current economic challenges and the growing trend of emigration, known as the “Japa syndrome.” Babayo emphasized.
“We want to use this event to remind everyone that there is so much good in our country. It is also an opportunity to open new doors for business relationships and partnerships, as we expect delegations from over six countries to attend. This will foster international engagement and provide a platform for promoting Nigeria’s potential,” he said.
The week-long celebration, which started September 25, features various competitions designed to engage participants of all skill levels and promote inclusivity within the sport. Vice Captain Dr. James Agbonhese outlined the events, including a match between caddies and staff, a special event hosted by Ladies Captain Julie Donli OON, and the men’s handicap 19 category.
