Krishav Morang and Uche Ubakanma emerged as the men’s and ladies’ champions of the 2024 Indian Cup Golf Tournament, held last weekend at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos.
Morang, with a 20 handicap, delivered an impressive 82 gross score in the one-day event to claim the overall best net player title with a net score of 62, finishing five strokes ahead of Mike Makinde, who recorded a 67 net score.
Aby Matthew, Chairman of the Indian Cup Organising Committee, praised the event’s atmosphere, highlighting the bond between the Indian and Nigerian business communities. “We are happy with the support from the various brands, especially InBev, Zenith Bank, African Steel, and Pepsi. It was great having over 400 players throughout the week vying for one honour or the other,” he said.
In the ladies’ category, Uche Ubakanma won with a gross score of 92 and a 25 handicap, edging out Adeola Banjoko, who finished two strokes behind. Evelyn Oyome and Shade Opawunmi secured the ladies’ gross prize and guest player prize, respectively.
Ankit Puri, a six-handicapper, achieved the best gross score of the tournament with a 74, just two over par from his 18-hole round on Saturday. Remi Olukoya and Akar Talah finished as runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.
Matthew added that the Indian Cup has become a significant event for businessmen golfers at Ikoyi Club, attracting consistent corporate support. “We had CFAO and Guinness who got involved this year to showcase their range of products with CFAO also staking one of their Suzuki products for a Hole-in-One, which was not won throughout the event. But the gesture shows the respect the event has earned over the years among other events on the Ikoyi Club tournament calendar.”
The Indian Cup Golf Tournament is organized by the Indian Golf Foundation (IGF) and held annually at Ikoyi Club 1938, bringing together golf enthusiasts and business leaders
