The Edo State Security Corps new leader, CP Friday Ibadin (Rtd) has officially assumed duty at the Corps’ headquarters in Benin City.
His appointment, which was confirmed by Governor Monday Okpebholo, is part of the administration’s drive to strengthen security across the state, a cornerstone of its five-point agenda.
CP Ibadin, while addressing sector commanders from the state’s three senatorial districts, highlighted the urgent need for collaboration among operatives to combat rising security challenges, including cult-related violence and other criminal activities.
He said that “Without stable security, no government can be sustained,” he remarked, stressing the critical role of a secured environment in fostering development and attracting investment.
During the handover ceremony, outgoing Corps Commander Col. Kole Omomia (Rtd) provided a detailed briefing on the Corps’ operations.
He revealed the breakdown of the over 11,098 operatives that had been trained as: Edo South, 7,434 operatives; Edo North, 2,226 operatives and Edo Central, 1,434 operatives
Omomia also outlined key challenges hindering the Corps’ effectiveness, including limited funding, inadequate vehicles, and insufficient communication equipment.
Despite these obstacles, he praised the resilience of the operatives and the progress made under his leadership.
In response, CP Ibadin commended his predecessor’s efforts and pledged to address the identified shortcomings to improve the Corps’ efficiency.
Drawing from his extensive experience as a retired law enforcement officer, he promised to introduce reforms that would enhance the Corps’ operations and ensure a safer Edo State.
The appointment of CP Ibadin aligns with Governor Okpebholo’s broader strategy to prioritize security alongside infrastructure, healthcare, education, and road development.
The administration aims to create an enabling environment for growth while safeguarding lives and property across the state.
