The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed claims that Nigerians in Libya are facing harassment due to the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s decision against the Libyan Football Federation.
CAF had previously condemned the Libyan Federation for mistreating the Nigerian team during a Nations Cup qualifying match.
In a statement, the Ministry’s spokesperson Eche Abu-Obe, clarified that Nigerians in Libya are conducting their daily lives without interference.
The ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to convey that as of the time of making this statement, Nigerians in Libya are going about their daily activities, devoid of any form of harassment by Libyan authorities.
“This is following the verdict of CAF, which indicted the Libyan Football Association for their ill-treatment of the Nigerian team and officials while in Libya for a Nations Cup Qualifying Match,” the statement reads.
