A devastating accident occurred in Ayeyoro, Epe, resulting in three fatalities after a Dangote truck suffered critical brake failure while descending from Ita-Opo. The truck collided with a tricycle and a stationary Toyota Camry at the Ayeyoro traffic light before crashing into the Ayetoro Market Complex.
The calamity involved a Dangote truck with plate number (DCG-TM-028) and a tricycle with plate number (Marwa AGL 442 QC).
The victims included the tricycle driver and two students from Manpower Technical School. First responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) swiftly secured the area and transported the deceased to the Epe General Hospital mortuary.
Additionally, two other accidents occurred in Abule-Egba and Ketu. An LT Bus and a Toyota Hiace Bus collided due to brake failure in Abule-Egba, while a multi-vehicle collision involving two Volkswagen commercial buses and a 10-tyre DAF truck occurred at Tsunami Bridge, inward Ketu. LASTMA personnel rescued eight individuals from these incidents, transporting them to nearby hospitals for treatment.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of vehicular maintenance, urging motorists to ensure their vehicles’ braking systems are optimal before driving. Regular maintenance checks are crucial to preventing such incidents and preserving lives.
