The Eyoto Sports Academy Under-15 Athletics Championship, held in collaboration with the Edo State Sports Commission, has brought excitement to Edo residents.

The two-day event holding at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, which concludes today, featured over 700 young athletes from schools across the five Local Government Areas in Edo South Senatorial Districts competing in events such as the 100m, 400m, 800m, and long jump on the first day of the tournament.

Joshua Joy emerged victorious in the girls’ 100m, clocking 12.53s to beat Omosivwe Treasure (12.62s) and Emmanuel Augustina (13.09s).

In the boys’ 100m, Ojie Marvelous claimed gold with a time of 11.56s, ahead of Usiada Ovie (11.79s) and Unoma Nelson (12.09s).

Dr. Felix Idahosa, President of Eyoto Sports Academy, had emphasised the initiative’s focus is on discovering and nurturing young talents, providing scholarships, and ensuring athletes excel both academically and athletically.

On his part, Athletics Head Coach Mutiu Oluwa had earlier declared that standout athletes will be monitored for future competitions, with scholarships awarded to ten exceptional performers.

Key executive council members of Eyoto Sports Academy including Dr. Festus Idahosa Erese, and Friday Enoye, are actively overseeing the event, ensuring fairness and success as the championship culminates today.
