The Edo State Ministry of Education has launched EdoCert 2.0, an advanced digital platform designed to streamline the generation and verification of academic certificates and report cards. As the first state in Nigeria to introduce such an initiative, Edo is taking a major step toward modernizing education administration and improving accessibility to student records.

The unveiling ceremony, held in Benin City under the theme Edo State Educational Certificate/Report Card Generation and Verification Platform, marked a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for educational advancement. The initiative aligns with the five-point agenda of Governor Monday Okpebholo, which prioritizes education as a key driver for enhancing the quality of life in the state.

EdoCert 2.0, developed as part of the DiCert digital public infrastructure platform and supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, aims to eliminate manual errors, reduce administrative costs, enhance data accuracy, and prevent certificate fraud. By automating the issuance of academic records, the platform ensures efficiency, security, and instant access to verifiable credentials, allowing students to obtain their certificates from any location.

Speaking at the launch, Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, emphasized the transformative impact of EdoCert 2.0, stating that it would revolutionize service delivery in the education sector. He noted that the platform would not only expedite certificate issuance but also enhance the credibility of Edo State’s educational qualifications by ensuring a globally accessible verification process.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Edith Atomre Ebomoyi, described the initiative as a timely response to global technological advancements, stressing that it would modernize and secure the state’s academic records. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuous innovation in education management.

Dr. Olubayo Adekanmbi, CEO of Data Science Nigeria and an implementing partner for the Gates Foundation, praised EdoCert 2.0 as a transformative social investment that would eliminate delays in accessing academic credentials, prevent loss of educational opportunities, and provide instant verification for institutions and employers.

During the event, students participated in a live demonstration of the platform, showcasing its ease of use and reliability. With Edo State embracing digital transformation, the government envisions a future of transparent, efficient, and secure educational record-keeping, ensuring that students and institutions benefit from seamless access to verifiable academic documents.
