President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has firmly denied allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that he has the highest regard for women and has never engaged in any form of harassment.
Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja, Akpabio dismissed the claims, describing them as baseless and politically motivated. He urged Nigerians not to rush to conclusions, emphasizing the need to respect legal proceedings.
“At no time have I harassed any woman sexually, including Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. I have always upheld the dignity and respect of women in all my dealings,” Akpabio stated.
The allegations emerged amid rising tensions in the Senate, with political observers speculating on underlying rivalries. Akpabio stressed the importance of allowing due process to take its course, rather than engaging in a trial by public opinion.
Meanwhile, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has insisted on her claims, calling for a thorough investigation. Some advocacy groups have also weighed in, demanding transparency and justice in the matter.
Recall that the controversy has sparked mixed reactions among lawmakers and the public. While some senators have called for restraint and adherence to legal processes, others believe the allegations should be thoroughly investigated to ensure accountability.
