The Edo State House of Assembly on Monday passed a resolution calling on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant agencies to urgently ameliorate the condition of the victims of the recent rainstorm disaster in the state by providing them with palliatives
Moving a motion of urgent public importance, the member representing Akoko Edo 1, Hon.Yekini Idaiye said that the recent rainstorm disaster of March 3rd left in its wake a very devastating effect in several communities in Akoko-Edo.
He stated furrher that over 100 houses were destroyed as many had their roofs blown off in Ojirami,Oja, Dagbala, Ososo, Akuku and Ate communities in Akoko Edo Local Government area of the state.
Hon. Idaiye sued for the cooperation of his colleagues in calling on the relevant agencies at the national and state level to urgently provide relief materials and palliatives to the affected communities.
Also contributing, the majority leader and member representing Ovia North East one, Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian and the minority leader and member representing Owan East, Hon Eric Okaka said that the rainstorm also wrecked havocs in some communities in their constituencies.
They called on relevant authorities to expedite action by way of cushioning the effects of the rainstorm disaster on the victims.
In the same vein, the member representing Etsako East, Hon Kingsley Ugabi expressed sympathy with people of the affected communities and thereafter called on all the local government council chairmen to encourage tree planting in their dormains in order to curb the menace of rainstorm.
The speaker, Rt.Hon Blessing Agbebaku while empathizing with the victims also emphasised the need for residents to always plant trees that would help mitigate the effect of rainstorm disaster.
Also at plenary, the speaker announced the composition of the Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission
