Benin City – The Edo State Government has refuted claims that the state is facing widespread lawlessness, calling such assertions exaggerated and misleading. In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, the government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and order.

Acknowledging existing security challenges—an issue common to many societies—Itua rejected any notion of chaos.

He highlighted Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration’s proactive efforts, including restructuring the Edo Security Network, strengthening collaborations with law enforcement, and investing in modern security infrastructure.

These measures, he stated, are already yielding results, equipping security personnel to respond effectively to emerging threats.

The government also addressed concerns over market disruptions and illegal revenue collection.

Itua pointed out that reforms in the transport and revenue sectors aim to eliminate extortion and intimidation of traders. Unlike past administrations that tolerated multiple taxation and illegal tolls, the current government is actively working to end such practices.

As part of these efforts, Atalakpa Recovery Concept Ltd. has been engaged as an enforcement compliance consultant.

Reaffirming the administration’s dedication to security, Itua detailed ongoing initiatives, including the procurement of modern security equipment, deployment of personnel to high-risk areas, and the establishment of a rapid response mechanism. These efforts, he said, contrast sharply with the past when kidnappings and cult-related violence were rampant.

Governor Okpebholo welcomes constructive criticism and values diverse perspectives on governance, but the government urged that public discourse be based on facts rather than politically motivated misinformation. Itua emphasized that Edo residents can see tangible improvements and that attempts to discredit the progress will not change the state’s forward momentum.

With continued investment in security, economic development, and governance reforms, the government reassured residents that Edo State is on a path to lasting stability and prosperity.
