Benin City – The Edo State Government has reinstated Hon. Samson Osagie, Ph.D., as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, following an investigative panel’s report that cleared him of financial infractions.
Osagie was suspended on February 5, 2025, alongside Hon. Damian Lawani, Chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission.
The suspension, approved by Governor Monday Okpebholo, was based on allegations of grave official and financial misconduct. At the time, the governor ordered a thorough investigation into the claims, with the officials remaining suspended pending the outcome.
In a letter dated March 12, 2025, Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., confirmed that Osagie had been exonerated and directed him to resume duties immediately.
The reinstatement signals the government’s commitment to due process and accountability, ensuring that allegations against public officials are properly investigated before final decisions are made.
With his return to office, Osagie is expected to continue spearheading key reforms in the state’s justice sector.
