The people of Evboyare Community, located off Benin-Auchi Road in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State, have appealed to the state government to provide essential amenities to improve their living conditions.

Speaking during the community’s annual Ikhuanedion ceremony over the weekend, the Village Head (Odionwere), Pa. Vincent Osahemwimda, highlighted the community’s urgent need for infrastructure, including access roads, a town hall, a market, a police station, primary and secondary schools, a healthcare centre, electricity, and a water borehole. He stressed that the provision of these facilities would enhance agricultural productivity, thereby contributing to increased food production in Edo State.

Pa. Osahemwimda explained that Ikhuanedion is a yearly tradition where the people of Evboyare honour their ancestors through sacrifices, seeking peace, security, love, progress, and development for their community. He noted that the majority of residents are peasant farmers who play a crucial role in sustaining food production in the state. However, he lamented that traders from the northern and western parts of Nigeria now dominate the market, buying up their produce in large quantities.

Other community members who voiced their concerns during the ceremony included Pa. John Enobakhare (Elder), Mr. Osayande Evans (General Secretary), Mr. Obosa Osarenator (Oka-Evbo), and Mr. Felix Aigbedion (Oka-Eghele), all of whom echoed the need for urgent government intervention to improve their standard of living.
