The Nigeria Diaspora Sports Festival (NDSF) has seen over 10,000 participants register as the online portal nears its closure on March 7, organizers announced on Tuesday.

The event, scheduled for April 12-19 in Lagos, has drawn athletes and enthusiasts from the Nigerian diaspora across countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany.

Launched last month, the registration portal at ndsf.com.ng has exceeded expectations, with football leading as the most popular sport, followed by basketball and athletics.

Dr. Joan Faluyi, head of the organizing committee, said, “The response shows the passion Nigerians abroad have for sports and unity.”

The festival aims to connect the diaspora with local talent through competitions and cultural events.

Participants range from amateur players to professionals, with team sports capped at 16 squads per category.

The committee urged those yet to register to do so before the Thursday timeline, noting that late entries will not be accepted.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has backed the initiative, promising top facilities at venues like Teslim Balogun Stadium.

The NDSF follows a successful debut in 2024, and organizers expect this year’s edition to boost tourism and youth engagement.

Registration fees start at $50 for individuals and $300 for teams, with details available on the portal.
