Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reinstated ownership of a prime parcel of land in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) of Benin City to former Delta State Governor, Mr. James Onanefe Ibori. The land’s Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) had been revoked by the previous administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
This development was announced in a statement by the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, on Monday in Benin City
According to the statement, the land had allegedly been reallocated by Obaseki’s administration to a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.
Similarly, Governor Okpebholo also restored land ownership to Captain Nogie Megisson, another individual whose C of O had been revoked under Obaseki’s tenure.
Governor Okpebholo viewed the previous administration’s actions as politically motivated and unjust. The statement emphasized his commitment to fairness, stating: “For the Governor, such actions are repugnant to civility, natural justice, equity, and good conscience and cannot be allowed to stand.
“There are several other lands revoked by Obaseki that follow the same pattern and are altogether ineffectual and barren.
“This is Governor Monday Okpebholo’s position that public goods cannot be sacrificed at the altar of political considerations.”
