The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Grassroots Sports, Hon. Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye played host to Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month.

Hon. Adeboye welcomed the Malian tactician to his Abuja office on Wednesday, a day after Chelle announced his provisional squad for the games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The Presidential aide assured Chelle of the federal government’s support as he gears up for his first competitive match as Nigeria coach since his appointment in January.

He stressed that the Nigerian government are keen on qualification for the historic 2026 World Cup that will feature 48 teams and will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The meeting with Chelle follows Hon. Adeboye’s engagement with former Super Eagles and Inter Milan striker, Obafemi Martins earlier in the week and the conversation was centered around grassroots football development across the country.

Nigeria are currently in fifth position in Group C without a win and they have three points after four matches.

Chelle’s side are scheduled  group leaders Rwanda who have seven points at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on March 21 before hosting bottom-placed Zimbabwe who have two points at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, four days later.
