The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communication, Dr. Desmond Agbama has urged Media Officers to rededicate their efforts to the discharge of their duties.
Dr. Agbama stated this during a meeting with Media Officers across the various MDAs held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Benin City.
He noted that Media Officers play significant roles in the dissemination of policies, programs and activities of government both within and outside of their MDAs, hence the need for them to redouble their efforts in the journalistic profession.
The Permanent Secretary who warned against any act of negligence of duty and indiscipline among Media Officers, emphasized on the need for them to uphold the code of conduct of their profession by ensuring balanced, objective, and accurate reportage of the activities of the State Government, stressing that the journalism profession is a pillar of truth and excellence.
Earlier, the Director of Information, Mr. Daniel Odion, called for synergy among Media Officers of the different MDAs, stressing that the Ministry of Information and Communication remains the parent Ministry that oversees their affairs.
He warned Media Officers against abdicating their duties, as this would attract consequences as enshrined in the Civil and Public Service Rules, while revealing that an in-house training had been earmarked by the Ministry to enhance the skills of the Media Officers.
The meeting provided an opportunity for Media Officers to express work challenges faced in their respective MDAs.
