President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.

This was contained in a release by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu

The appointment is part of the government’s efforts to establish a strong leadership foundation for the newly acquired institution.

Alongside Bishop Kukah, President Tinubu has named principal officers for the university. Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas has been appointed Vice-Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian.

Additionally, the President approved the appointments of Mr Thomas Etuh (North Central), Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East), Prof. Femi Taiwo (South West), and Zarah Bukar (North East) as members of the university’s Governing Council.

The appointments, according to the presidency, were made based on the appointees’ distinguished careers, leadership experience, and commitment to advancing education in Nigeria.

President Tinubu urged them to leverage their collective expertise to position the institution as a centre for academic excellence and research.

He emphasised that their leadership should align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises education as a key driver of national development.

Furthermore, the President encouraged the newly appointed officers to provide visionary leadership and ensure that the university is well-prepared to admit its first batch of students in September 2025. The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, was formerly known as Nok University before it was taken over by the federal government.
