President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation. 

The was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Ogunjimi was first announced as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. His selection followed a competitive process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.

The selection was conducted through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process. Candidates were assessed in three stages, which included a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.

The statement noted that his appointment will take effect on 7th March 2025, the same day the current Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is scheduled to retire.

Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which he obtained in 1990. He later earned a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.

He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. Over the years, he has held various positions in the civil service, handling financial administration and accounting operations.

The President also urged Ogunjimi to carry out his responsibilities with diligence and professionalism and dedication to Nigeria’s service. 

The selection process reflects the President’s commitment to ensuring that public service appointments are based on transparency, excellence, and competence.
