The Edo State Government under Senator Monday Okpebholo has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening veterinary infrastructure to ensure the availability of essential livestock drugs and vaccines.

Represented by the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Thomas Haruna, the governor conveyed this message at the opening of the Veterinary Week and Livestock Farmers Forum, held at the Veterinary Clinic in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The governor underscored the critical role farmers play in ensuring food security and sustaining livelihoods.

He praised the Veterinary Week as a testament to the state’s dedication to safeguarding livestock health, noting that healthy animals are key to thriving farms and increased yields.

He called on participants to apply the knowledge gained from the forum to enhance livestock production and stimulate economic growth across the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, Edo State Chapter, Dr Asemota Daniel, said that the two-day training aimed to make livestock farming more lucrative and to combat hunger and food insecurity.

The event featured training sessions on piggery, poultry, and fish farming and concluded with the presentation of an award to Governor Okpebholo for his contributions towards repositioning Edo’s agricultural sector.
