… Reaffirms commitment to democratic progress, public service

The Edo State Government has issued a rebuttal to what it describes as “reckless, misleading, and malicious” statements released by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), condemning the opposition’s continued spread of falsehoods and attempts to destabilise the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Responding to a recent press statement signed by PDP Publicity Secretary, Chris Osa Nehikhare, the government described the claims as baseless and politically motivated, accusing the PDP of persistently peddling

misinformation in a bid to remain relevant.

According to the official statement, the PDP’s remarks reflect a long-standing pattern of political desperation and dishonesty.

“It is nothing short of hypocrisy for the PDP, whose years in power were marked by executive impunity and disregard for constitutional principles, to now attempt to cloak itself in the language of legality and democracy,” the statement reads.

The government emphasised that while Governor Okpebholo has so far shown restraint and a deep respect for the rule of law in the face of repeated provocations, the administration will not continue to tolerate what it termed a “campaign of calumny.”

It warned that all false allegations made against the governor and public officials will, at the appropriate time, be challenged through lawful means, with those responsible held accountable.

Rejecting what it called a calculated attempt to disrupt governance and foster division, the Edo State Government asserted its commitment to delivering good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.

“Edo belongs to all of us,” the statement concluded, “and no amount of political bitterness or misinformation will distract this administration from its mission to improve the lives of the people.”

The government reassured the public that despite the distractions, Governor Okpebholo remains focused on fulfilling his democratic mandate and upholding the integrity of public service in Edo State.
