The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. (Dr.) Dennis Idahosa, has rebutted an allegation linking him to secret cult activities, describing the claims as baseless, defamatory, and a malicious attempt to destroy his hard-earned reputation.
The deputy governor’s response followed the circulation of a video on social media in which one Emmanuel Agbogun accused him, along with other notable Edo citizens, of being members of various cult groups operating in the state.
In a statement released on Sunday, Dr. Idahosa said: “My attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media, in which one Emmanuel Agbogun falsely accuses me of being a member of a secret cult.
“These allegations are spurious, malicious, and grossly misleading. They are a deliberate attempt to tarnish my image and distract from the critical work this administration is doing to combat cultism and restore peace in Edo State.”
He categorically denied any involvement in cult-related activities, affirming that he has never been a member of any secret cult group, past or present.
“As a public servant and the Deputy Governor of Edo State, I have always upheld the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability,” he stated. “Let me again reiterate that I consider this publication not only slanderous but also a direct attack on my character. I will not treat it lightly and will pursue all legal avenues to ensure that such defamation is addressed within the full extent of the law.”
Idahosa expressed concern over the effect of such claims on public morale and the state’s ongoing anti-cultism campaign, declaring that the state government remains firmly committed to eradicating cultism and other criminal vices.
“This administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards cultism,” he said.
“Cult-related activities are a menace to our communities and a serious threat to the development of our dear state. We will continue to work tirelessly to root them out.”
Reiterating his personal values, Idahosa added: “For the avoidance of doubt, I am not, and have never been, a member of any secret cult. I am a Christian and a steadfast believer in the teachings of Jesus Christ.”
He called on the people of Edo State to remain vigilant and to support the collective efforts to build a peaceful and just society rooted in development and accountability.
