The Edo State Government has called on residents across the state to fully participate in the upcoming monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, 31st May 2025.

The exercise, which will run from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., forms part of the government’s renewed efforts to promote public hygiene and environmental sustainability.

In a coordinated sensitization rally on Wednesday, the Edo State Waste Management Board, operating under the Governor’s Office, took to the streets of Benin City, including the bustling King Square and other major areas, to raise awareness and encourage compliance with the sanitation directive.

Officials urged residents to remain within their premises on the designated date and actively clean their immediate surroundings, including drains, gutters, and overgrown bushes, to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

The Board warned against any breach of the government’s no-movement policy during the exercise.

Residents who fail to comply, or who are caught engaging in indiscriminate waste disposal, risk arrest and prosecution by a mobile court set up to enforce the directive.

Furthermore, school authorities, office personnel, and business owners have been directed to complete all cleaning activities by Friday, 30th May, and to ensure that all waste is properly bagged and disposed of.

The government has made it clear that there will be no leniency for defaulters, underlining its commitment to strict enforcement of the new sanitation policy in Edo State.
