Edo State has recorded its first casualty among pilgrims participating in the ongoing 2025 Hajj in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The deceased, Mrs Dazumi Adizatu, a 75-year-old pilgrim from Jattu, Uzairue, in Etsako West Local Government Area, passed away on Monday May 26, 2025, at King Fahad General Hospital in Makkah after a brief illness.

Her death was confirmed in the morning of Tuesday May 27, 2025, by the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mallam Musah Muhammad Uduimoh, via a WhatsApp voice note.

According to Mallam Uduimoh, Mrs Adizatu took ill after performing the Tawaaf on Sunday May 25 and was subsequently hospitalised. She died the following day (Monday)

In line with Islamic burial rites, she was laid to rest in Makkah on the evening of the same day she passed.

The board chairman has since reached out to her family in Jattu, Uzairue to inform them of the sad development.
