BENIN CITY: In a determined effort to uphold transparency and integrity in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), the Edo State Ministry of Education has launched a state-wide monitoring exercise across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, is a key feature of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s educational agenda.
Teams of Ministry officials have been deployed to secondary schools throughout the state to observe the exam proceedings, prevent malpractices and assist schools facing logistics or administrative hurdles.
“Our mission goes beyond oversight,” said the Director of Education, Mrs Ero. “We are here to safeguard the hopes and hardwork of thousands of students.
“By maintaining high standards, we reaffirm Edo’s leadership in academic excellence.”
Across various centres, candidates welcomed the presence of Ministry officials, describing it as a gesture of recognition for their academic efforts.
The monitoring is being conducted in collaboration with school principals, WAEC supervisors, local education authorities, and security agencies, with early reports showing strong compliance with WAEC protocols.
In addition to overseeing the exams, officials are using the opportunity to evaluate school facilities, with a view to recommending infrastructure upgrades after the examination period.
The Ministry has pledged to ensure that the process remains smooth and transparent, with outcomes used to enhance future assessment exercises, it was gathered.
