Benin City – The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to eradicating cultism, warning landlords to closely monitor their tenants or risk facing legal consequences.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, issued the warning during a press conference in Benin City, emphasizing the government’s zero tolerance for cult-related activities.

According to the Commissioner, any landlord whose property is found to be harboring cultists will face the full wrath of the law.

“The state government has declared that cult-related activities will be tackled aggressively. Perpetrators and those who aid or abet them will be dealt with according to the law,” Ohonbamu stated.

He explained that this tough stance also justifies the demolition of buildings used for criminal activities, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal hideouts across the state.

Ohonbamu urged landlords to be vigilant and ensure their properties are not being used as safe havens for cultists or other criminals. He further warned that property owners found to be complicit in such activities would face severe sanctions.

The Commissioner also appealed to parents to instill moral discipline in their children, noting that no property has been demolished without credible evidence or confessions from those involved.

“Parents who fail to heed this warning or neglect to correct their children’s delinquent behavior may be seen as accomplices in criminal acts,” he said.

Ohonbamu reaffirmed the government’s intensified crackdown on various forms of crime, including cultism, ritual killings, herdsmen attacks, and the illegal possession of firearms.
