… Lauds legislative collaboration, reiterates commitment to good governance
BENIN CITY — The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Monday joined lawmakers at the Edo State House of Assembly to mark the second anniversary of the 8th Assembly, commending the legislators for their support and partnership in the ongoing effort to reposition the state through people-centred governance.
Speaking during the commemorative event held at the Assembly complex in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo lauded the House for its cooperation with the Executive arm and pledged to deepen collaboration to deliver tangible results for the people of Edo.
“I congratulate this Honourable House on your second year of service to our dear state. In just seven months, we have achieved what some could not do in four years and that would not have been possible without the unity and cooperation between us,” the governor declared.
He noted that sustained synergy between the legislative and executive arms was essential for development and urged lawmakers to remain focused on the collective goal of rewriting the governance narrative in Edo.
“Let us work together to build a future we all desire, one where every community feels the impact of government. This House has shown maturity and purpose, and I look forward to even greater collaboration as we pursue progress,” Okpebholo added.
Earlier, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, had celebrated the Assembly staff as the unsung heroes of the legislative institution, describing them as the engine room behind the lawmakers’ success.
He assured the staff that their welfare remained a top priority, and their concerns would be addressed in due course. “Without the staff, the legislature cannot function. We are here to appreciate your dedication and reaffirm our commitment to a harmonious working environment,” he said.
The event also featured goodwill messages from other lawmakers, including Hon. Maria Oligbi-Edeko, who highlighted the historic achievement of legislative autonomy, and Hon. Osamwonyi Atu, Deputy Speaker, who restated the House’s readiness to align with the Governor’s development agenda.
With unity and mutual respect evident between both arms of government, the second anniversary celebration reflected a renewed sense of purpose and direction under the leadership of Governor Okpebholo and the 8th Assembly.
