BENIN CITY – As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the protection of its forest and wildlife resources, the Edo State Forestry Commission has inaugurated a new enforcement team tasked with safeguarding the state’s ecological assets across the three senatorial districts.
The inauguration, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Benin City, was presided over by the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Valentine Asuen.
The exercise marked a strategic step in the state’s commitment to sustainable forest and wildlife management.
In his address, Hon. Asuen urged the newly inaugurated officers to carry out their duties with discipline, dedication, and in strict adherence to the commission’s vision of sustainable resource utilisation.
He emphasised the need for vigilance in combating illegal logging, poaching, and other environmentally harmful activities.
“You are frontline defenders of Edo’s natural heritage. Your role is critical in preserving these resources for future generations,” he said.
The Commission said the deployment of the team would strengthen its ability to enforce environmental laws, promote eco-tourism, and support sustainable development initiatives in forestry and wildlife conservation.
According to Hon. Asuen, the initiative aligns with the state government’s broader environmental agenda and positions Edo as a model for responsible forest governance in Nigeria.
