The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting farmers as part of efforts to strengthen food security across the state. This assurance was given through the Office of the First Lady, led by Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani, during a recognition event held at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Benin City.
The event, organised by the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), honoured key individuals who have significantly contributed to the agriculture sector. Representing Mrs Anani at the event, the Oredo Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs Esther Kolade, commended the farmers for their dedication to food production and the agricultural value chain in Edo State.
In her remarks, Mrs Anani thanked the farmers for their tireless service and encouraged them to remain committed. “Without you, we wouldn’t have food on our tables. I pray that God will bless your efforts and give you greater yields,” she said.
She noted that farming holds immense potential for economic growth and assured the Association of the state government’s willingness to collaborate on empowerment programmes to benefit farmers. She also encouraged young people to remain passionate and committed to their chosen vocations, as hard work brings rewards.
Speaking on behalf of the Association, its Edo State Chairman, HRH Alhaji Bako Dogwo, praised Mrs Anani for the support she has provided since assuming office. He said her contributions, particularly towards women farmers, earned her a place among the event’s awardees.
Alhaji Dogwo outlined the Association’s achievements and appealed for continued government support. Awards were also presented to Mrs Anani, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Gani Audu, for their roles in advancing the Association’s work and agricultural development in the state.
