The Edo State Government has commenced a four-day capacity-building workshop for education officials and stakeholders on the implementation of the Teachers Management Information System (TMIS), a digital platform aimed at transforming educational administration across the state.
Organised by the Ministry of Education in Benin City, the training is being facilitated by BBGNSURF Technologies Ltd in partnership with UNICEF, and is designed to equip participants with digital tools to improve teacher record management, deployment, performance tracking, and policy compliance.
Representing the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, at the opening session, Permanent Secretary Mrs. Edith Ebomoyi praised Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to digital reform in the education sector.
She described the TMIS as a key innovation for enhancing transparency, accountability, and evidence-based planning.
The TMIS platform integrates biometric verification, geo-tagged school data, and real-time analytics, offering a comprehensive solution for managing human resources in the education sector.
BBGNSURF facilitators Auwal Abdulmumin and Ibrahim Hamisu led participants through demonstrations on how to navigate and utilise the platform.
The Ministry’s Director of Planning and Research, Mr. Gabriel Oriri, commended the partnership and said Edo State is now setting the benchmark for educational reform. “With TMIS, we are redefining how education systems should be managed,” he said.
Attendees at the training include ICT desk officers, school principals, zonal education heads, and other senior officials who will act as ambassadors for the statewide rollout.
The TMIS is expected to improve teacher data integrity, inform state education policy, and reinforce school accountability mechanisms, all in line with Governor Okpebholo’s broader agenda for a digitally driven education system.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity and continuous digital capacity development, ensuring no teacher or school is left behind in Edo’s transformation journey.
