Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, has reiterated the transformative purpose of governance, commending Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda as a focused vehicle for meaningful development in the state.
Speaking during a stakeholder sensitization workshop in Benin City, Ohonbamu remarked that “government should not be an end in itself, but a means to transform society.”
He praised the Governor’s commitment to inclusiveness and transparency in the execution of projects.
The workshop brought together stakeholders across government, civil society, and the education sector to reflect on Governor Okpebholo’s accomplishments since assuming office.
Ohonbamu moderated a panel session featuring key members of the State Executive Council.
Dr. Paddy Iyamu, Commissioner for Education, highlighted infrastructural improvements in schools that were previously in a deplorable state.
He revealed that over 500 new teachers have been recruited, vocational centres established, and science and technology labs upgraded through partnerships with agencies like NELFUND.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Chief Olabisi Idahomi, noted that her ministry has been empowered to combat gender-based violence through the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law.
She outlined initiatives such as the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and other facilities dedicated to supporting vulnerable women and children.
The panel called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that the SHINE Agenda delivers tangible benefits to all Edo residents.
