The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has warned the public about a network of fraudsters impersonating company officials and attempting to extort money from potential investors.
In a statement, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, said that the impersonators had been reaching out to foreign and local investors with false claims, soliciting fees in exchange for arranging meetings with members of the NNPCL board, executive team, and senior management.
“The general public is advised to beware of individuals and companies falsely claiming to represent NNPC Limited,” the statement read.
“Their tactics include soliciting fees for meetings with the NNPC board of directors, executives, and management staff. These actions are unauthorised and illegal.”
Soneye particularly cautioned foreign investors and international business entities to be vigilant and report any such fraudulent activities to law enforcement or relevant authorities immediately.
He further stressed that NNPCL only conducts legitimate business dealings through its official channels and duly recognised business units.
“NNPC Limited remains committed to transparency, integrity, and the protection of our stakeholders in all interactions. Let’s work together to prevent scams. Stay alert and share this notice,” he added.
