… Inspects College of Nursing project in Udomi
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commissioned a newly completed 2.5MVA injection sub-station in Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area, fulfilling a key campaign promise aimed at improving electricity supply to underserved communities in Edo Central.
During an inspection of the project on Monday, Governor Okpebholo, joined by senior government officials, expressed delight at the successful completion of the sub-station, describing it as a landmark development that would significantly enhance the quality of life and stimulate economic activity across the region.
“This is a new dawn for our people. For many years, these communities have not felt the presence of government in such a tangible way.
“But today, they are experiencing what governance should truly mean service, development, and hope,” the governor said.
The 2.5MVA injection sub-station is designed to serve over nine transformers in the area, converting the high-voltage 33KVA line to 11KVA, thereby making electricity distribution more efficient and reliable.
The Business Head, Technical Operations of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Engr. Mokwenye Jidenmah, who was present during the inspection, confirmed that the station would be energised within the day.
“This sub-station is ready to deliver power. The red line will be energised on 11KVA, and before the end of today, the community will begin to enjoy electricity,” he said, noting that the infrastructure was strategically designed to serve multiple communities.
Phase two of the electricity extension project will connect six communities: Udomi 1, Ujabhole 1, Unogbo, Idimoghodor, Ibhioloulu, and Afuda, all in the Uwessan axis of Esan Central.
Residents in these communities are expected to begin receiving steady power supply once the extension is complete.
Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, stating that the project was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is just one of the many projects Edo people can expect. With steady electricity, businesses can grow, jobs can be created, and the local economy can thrive,” he said.
In addition to inspecting the power project, the governor also visited the construction site of the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology, also located in Udomi.
He commended the Edo State House of Assembly for its prompt passage of the enabling legislation for the institution, which he has already signed into law.
“I want to sincerely thank the House of Assembly for their support and speedy passage of the bill establishing the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025.
This project is critical, and work is ongoing. It reflects our resolve to improve healthcare training and services in Edo State,” Okpebholo said.
The governor assured residents that more people-oriented projects were underway and promised that his administration would remain focused on delivering impactful governance to every part of the state.
