The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that Pastor Paul Adefarasin, founder of House on the Rock Church, voluntarily reported to its headquarters in Ikeja for questioning over a viral video that showed him holding what appeared to be a gun-like object during a roadside confrontation.
The video, which surfaced online earlier in the week, shows Adefarasin stepping out of an unregistered vehicle and engaging in a verbal exchange with another road user.
In the footage, he is seen holding a metallic object while addressing someone believed to be recording the incident.
The clip quickly drew public attention and widespread speculation, with many social media users claiming the object was a firearm. Calls mounted for the police to investigate, given the potential implications for public safety.
Responding to the growing uproar, the Lagos Police, in a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, announced that the pastor had turned himself in and was being interrogated by detectives.
The statement read in part: “No one is above the law. Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives who commenced investigation into the case.”
Meanwhile, Adefarasin, in a message addressed to his congregation and shared across his verified social media platforms, denied that the object was a weapon. He described the incident as a misunderstanding.
He insisted that the object in question was not a gun and that it was never pointed at anyone in a threatening manner.
The police confirmed that an investigation was ongoing and pledged to make its findings public, reassuring the public of its commitment to justice and safety regardless of a person’s status.
