The Presidency has issued an apology after mistakenly listing Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Dr. Edwin Madunagu, both still alive under the Posthumous Honours category during President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day address.

The mix-up, which caused public concern, occurred during the President’s televised speech at the National Assembly, where dozens of pro-democracy figures were honoured for their roles in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.

In a statement issued later by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency admitted the error and said steps were being taken to correct it across all official platforms.

“Under the Posthumous Award category, the names of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader, and Dr. Edwin Madunagu were incorrectly included. Both are alive and should not have appeared in that category,” Onanuga said.

Describing the mistake as a regrettable oversight, the Presidency assured Nigerians that necessary corrections would be made promptly.

“We sincerely regret this oversight. We shall make the necessary corrections across all State House digital platforms,” the statement read.
