The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a fresh warning to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to pursue genuine reconciliation with the state’s lawmakers or risk being impeached.

Speaking at a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, said that Fubara has not made any meaningful move to reconcile with the duly elected members of the State House of Assembly.

The current political crisis in Rivers State escalated on 18 March 2025 when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency due to a deepening conflict between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Following that development, President Tinubu suspended both Governor Fubara and the State Assembly and appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as sole administrator of the state for a six-month interim period.

While governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have gone to court to challenge the president’s decision, a series of meetings involving Tinubu, Wike, and Fubara in recent weeks had given rise to speculation about possible reconciliation.

However, Tony Okocha insisted that no progress had been made. “I can confirm that there is no reconciliation effort currently underway in Rivers. The suspended Governor, Fubara, has not made any move to reconcile with the lawmakers,” he said.

He further warned that unless Fubara initiates “genuine reconciliation,” he would be left with no protection against impeachment, stressing that the Supreme Court’s judgment on the matter remains binding.

There are also speculations that President Tinubu might consider reinstating Fubara during the upcoming June 12 Democracy Day commemorations.
