UBIAJA – Hon. Joseph Ikpea has emerged winner of the Senatorial Bye-Election Primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo Central Senatorial District, defeating his sole rival, Glory Oziegbe Momodu.

Ikpea polled a total of 1,905 votes, far ahead of Glory Oziegbe Momodu, who secured 50 votes, to clinch the party’s ticket for the August 16, 2025 Senatorial bye-election in Edo Central Senatorial district.

The APC adopted the direct primary method, allowing all card-carrying members across the five local government areas of the senatorial district to participate in the process.

Declaring the results, the Returning Officer, Dr. Ugboaja Stanley Ozoamaka, described the exercise as peaceful and credible, commending party members for their discipline and maturity.

Reacting to his victory, Hon. Ikpea described the process as free and fair, and expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence reposed in him to fly the party’s flag in the upcoming election.

Meanwhile, former member of the House of Representatives for Esan South East/Esan North East Federal Constituency, Hon. Sergius Ogun, has secured the Senatorial ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Hon. Ogun, who was returned unopposed, was declared the party’s candidate by the Returning Officer, Hon. Kennedy Oseodion, who also serves as the ADC State Chairman.

The ADC primary was held at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan North East Local Government Area, with former Governor of Edo State, Senator (Prof.) Oserheimen Osunbor, in attendance.

In his acceptance speech, Rt. Hon. Sergius Ogun pledged to build on his achievements in the House of Representatives. 

He promised that, if elected, he would prioritise linking rural communities with access roads to boost agriculture and trade.

He also pledged to strengthen education and security in the senatorial district and sponsor bills that would transform the fortunes of Esan land and its people.
