BENIN CITY — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has unanimously endorsed Hon. Omosede Igbinedion as its consensus candidate for the forthcoming bye-election to fill the vacant Ovia Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat

The announcement was made on Monday by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, during a meeting of party leaders and supporters held in Benin City.

Idahosa, who vacated the Ovia seat following his election as Deputy Governorship of Edo State, described Igbinedion’s adoption as the outcome of “extensive consultations and a unity of purpose” within the APC.

“This is not just about filling a vacant seat,” Idahosa declared. “It is about giving the good people of Ovia, quality, experienced, and people-oriented representation.”

Idahosa praised Igbinedion’s legislative experience, grassroots connections, and record of service, stating that she was the best choice to lead the party to victory in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled bye-election on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Accepting the party’s nomination, Igbinedion thanked APC leaders and members for their confidence, pledging to prioritise effective and responsive representation for the constituency.

“This is a call to service, and I assure you all that I will not take this trust for granted,” she said.

Igbinedion, a lawyer and philanthropist, previously represented Ovia in the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before joining the APC in 2023.

Her adoption was witnessed by top party chieftains, state and local executives, youth and women leaders, and traditional rulers, who lauded the consensus strategy as key to maintaining party unity ahead of the polls.
