IBADAN – Two women, Sekinat Olayiwola, 37, and Zainab Adesina, 30, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a rice trader of N2.06 million.
They face a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, and stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendants conspired to defraud the complainant, Rukayat Adeboye, on May 30 at about 6:58 a.m., in the Sawmill area of Ibadan.
He alleged that the women fraudulently obtained N2,060,000 from the complainant under the pretext of supplying 40 bags of rice but failed to deliver.
The money, he said, was transferred into a Moniepoint account (number 5043533741) belonging to Olayiwola and converted to personal use.
Akinloye said the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 419, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000. The defendants pleaded not guilty.
Defence counsel, Mr. Abdulfatai Ogundeji, urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted each defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a blood relative. The case was adjourned until November 27 for hearing.
