Benin City: A reckless commercial bus driver on Wednesday morning caused an accident at the busy Third Junction in Benin City leaving two pedestrians injured and three other vehicles damaged.
The incident occurred around 9:37 a.m. when the speeding mini bus reportedly knocked down two men before crashing into multiple cars while fleeing the scene.
Eyewitnesses said that one of the victims, a middle-aged man, sustained a serious head injury, while the second victim, believed to be in his mid-20s, suffered a leg injury. Both were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by concerned bystanders before emergency services arrived.
According to one of the eye witnesses who spoke with our correspondent, the driver of the bus in his bid to escape after hitting the two pedestrians, brushed at least three other vehicles, leaving noticeable damage.
One of the affected cars owner who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed shock and frustration over the reckless behavior of the bus driver.
“The driver didn’t even stop to check on the people he hit. He just kept going, hitting more cars in the process,” the witness said.
The identity of the mini bus driver remained unknown at the time of filing this report. But the Federal Road Safety Corps has been consistent in warning road users especially commercial drivers to be cautious in order to avoid crashes of this nature.
