BENIN CITY – The Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed eight commissioner nominees forwarded to it by Governor Monday Okpebholo, even as the governor also nominated five persons for appointment into the Edo State Civil Service Commission.

Those confirmed as commissioners are Kassim Afegbua, Godwin Eshieshi, Ohimai Ehijimetor, Eugenia Abdallah, Nosa Adams, Yakubu Oshiorenua Musa, Felix Akhabue, and Prof. Omorodion Ignatius Ikponmwosa.

The confirmation followed the report of the House Committee on Rules and Business, chaired by the Majority Leader, Jonathan Aigbokhan, who said the nominees were found competent and professionally qualified to serve.

Announcing their confirmation through a voice vote, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku praised their credentials but expressed concern over the poor gender balance.

“Out of eight commissioners, we only have one woman. I will discuss with the governor on the need to include more women,” Agbebaku said.

He urged the commissioner-designates to work harmoniously with the legislature in supporting the governor’s administration.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Governor Okpebholo, through a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, announced the nomination of five persons to constitute the Edo State Civil Service Commission.

The nominees are Oko-Ose Samuel Ozemhonyelea, who will serve as Chairman, Deborah O. Enakhimion, Mrs. Monica Igbadumhe, Elder David Ovbiosa Odaro (JP), and Isikpe Irene Kadiri. Their names have been forwarded to the Assembly for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.

The Civil Service Commission is the statutory body responsible for appointments, promotions, discipline, and general administration of the state’s civil service workforce.
