The Edo State Government has partnered with Google to train 800 students in advanced digital skills under the Advanced Job Ready Tech Programme, in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda.

Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, said the initiative is designed to strategically prepare Edo students for participation in the over 37 million jobs projected to be created in the global digital sector, according to the World Economic Forum.

He explained that the programme will offer courses in Data Science, Data Analysis and Visualization, Data Architecture, Geospatial Data Science, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, and Advanced Machine Learning Techniques.

In addition to training, students will have access to a career fair, internship placements, and direct job opportunities. The programme will enable participants to earn income, secure employment, and advance their careers, with the potential to work remotely and earn in U.S. dollars.

Dr. Iyamu stressed that the training is open to Edo students both within and outside the state, with remote participation available. For students without laptops, the state’s Digital Hub in Benin is fully equipped to facilitate their learning.

He said education in Edo is focused not only on ensuring that no child is left behind but also on equipping students with critical skills to navigate today’s world, make meaningful contributions, and compete globally
