BENIN CITY — A suspect has been arrested by the Edo State Task Force for the Protection of Government Property over an alleged attempt to steal iron materials from the premises of the defunct Bendel Brewery.

The suspect, whose identity was not disclosed at the time of reporting, was caught during a routine surveillance operation carried out by the Task Force at the government-owned facility located in Benin City.

According to a statement from the Task Force, the individual was apprehended while attempting to cart away government-owned materials, and was immediately handed over to officers at the Nigeria Police Area Command, Oregbeni Division.

An official report has been submitted to the appropriate government authorities for documentation and further action.

A spokesperson for the Task Force said the operation was part of ongoing statewide efforts to protect public assets and curb the rising incidence of theft, vandalism, and unauthorized encroachment on government property.

“We remain committed to protecting all government installations and facilities,” the statement said. 

“We call on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods
