BENIN CITY — The Edo State Government has launched a statewide training programme for head teachers, principals, and education officers on the Teachers Management Information System (TMIS), as part of efforts to digitize and reform the education sector.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, represented by the Director of Planning and Research, Mr. Gabriel Orire, said the training was taking place simultaneously across the state’s three senatorial districts.
He explained that the TMIS platform would provide a centralized database of all teachers in the state, using biometric verification, geo-tagging, and real-time dashboards to enhance transparency, accountability, and performance tracking.
According to Dr. Iyamu, the training aims to equip participants with skills in teacher data management and deployment, while turning them into TMIS ambassadors who will mainstream in their respective Local Government Areas.
He praised the initiative as part of the Governor Monday Okpebholo administration’s broader digital education agenda, saying it would enhance smart decision-making and position Edo as a model for educational innovation in Nigeria.
