Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has vowed to quit politics if the All Progressives Congress (APC) loses the August 16 by-election for Ovia Federal Constituency.

Idahosa, who vacated the seat after becoming Deputy Governor, made the declaration on Sunday at the APC campaign flag-off in Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

“Omosede will win this election,” he told cheering supporters. “If the candidates from Oghede and Ofunama win their units, I will quit politics.”

He maintained that the Ovia Reps seat was never truly vacant and praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for picking him, a son of the constituency as running mate.

Idahosa said the APC chose Barr. Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion through a democratic process, describing her as competent, reliable, and consistent.

“We’re sending her to represent us. Even the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, lamented that Edo has no female voice at the National Assembly,” he noted.

He listed ongoing infrastructure projects in Ovia, including Okhun Road in Oluku Ward, Oghede-Adun–Ekenhuan Road, and plans to rehabilitate the old Siluko Road, as part of APC’s scorecard.

APC’s ward-to-ward campaigns, he said, would commence shortly.

In her remarks, Igbinedion thanked President Bola Tinubu, Governor Okpebholo, and party leaders for backing her emergence as consensus candidate.

She praised Idahosa’s support and took a swipe at the opposition, saying the PDP “has sunk worse than the Titanic and will never rise again.”

Igbinedion also called for longer tenures for National Assembly members from Edo to enable meaningful development and applauded other aspirants who stepped down for her.
