The attention of the Edo State Government has been drawn to yet another baseless and laughable press statement by the moribund Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, signed by its self-imposed mouthpiece, Chris Osa Nehikhare.

It is ironic, if not outright insulting, that the PDP, whose years of misrule, monumental corruption, and gross incompetence left Edo State in ruins, now attempts to lecture the people on governance, accountability, and prudent spending.

This is the same PDP that had every opportunity to transform Edo but instead chose to plunder its resources, erode public trust, and mortgage the future of our people. Edo people are neither deceived nor interested.

Senator Monday Okpebholo’s administration is one of action, purpose, and vision. The AI-generated claims by the PDP are false.

Since assuming office, Governor Okpebholo has not embarked on any frivolous trips. Every kobo spent on official engagements—local or international—is strategically aimed at forging partnerships, attracting investments, and securing opportunities with long-term benefits for Edo people.

Unlike in the PDP era, when foreign trips were little more than shopping sprees and family holidays for political office holders, this Government travels with clear objectives, measurable results, and an unwavering commitment to the people’s progress.

As for Chris Nehikhare, he is the least qualified person in Edo State to speak about accountability, prudence, or governance. His political record is a manual on failure: years spent defending corruption, whitewashing incompetence, and peddling lies while Edo people suffered. It is baffling that someone who was part of a government that could not even pay salaries without borrowing now dares to pontificate on fiscal discipline.

The truth is simple: Chris Nehikhare is a political vulture feeding on the carcass of a dead party. The PDP in Edo State is finished—buried by the will of the people in the last elections. Nehikhare’s noisy outbursts are nothing more than the dying gasps of an expired political machine.

The PDP’s talk of “crumbling infrastructure” is the height of hypocrisy. It was under their watch that Edo’s schools decayed, roads collapsed, hospitals became death traps, and investments fled in droves.

Today, the Okpebholo administration is steadily reversing those years of damage, rebuilding critical infrastructure, restoring investor confidence, and giving Edo people a State they can be proud of.

Edo people remember vividly, and reject resoundingly, the PDP’s era of reckless looting, fake promises, and endless propaganda. The 2024 elections were a referendum on their incompetence, and the people voted overwhelmingly for change. The PDP is now a political relic, desperate to remain relevant through lies and manufactured outrage.

We advise Chris Nehikhare and his co-travellers in political irrelevance to first apologize to Edo people for the catastrophic years of PDP governance before daring to criticize a Government that is working tirelessly to clean up their mess.

The Okpebholo administration will not be distracted by the wailings of expired politicians. Its focus remains on delivering tangible, measurable progress for the people of Edo State—something the PDP failed woefully to do when it had the chance.

Edo has moved forward. The PDP should accept its political obituary and rest in peace.

Signed:

Fred Itua

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State
