ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as largely peaceful and credible by-elections across 16 constituencies in 12 states at the weekend.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, the President hailed the electoral umpire for the hitch-free exercise, noting that the polls were mostly devoid of violence.

He congratulated all the winners declared by INEC, as well as the political parties that participated in the contests.

According to the results announced, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in 12 constituencies, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won two, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took one, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) clinched one.

Tinubu particularly congratulated the new APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, describing the outcome as an emphatic first victory under his leadership.

He also praised APC governors and party leaders for working together to deliver success.

“Chairman Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and with unity of purpose among party leaders,” Tinubu said.

The President thanked APC supporters and the electorate for their confidence in the ruling party, assuring them that the Renewed Hope agenda remains a commitment to building a more secure and prosperous Nigeria.

He urged all candidates and parties that took part in the elections to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, stressing that fairness and tolerance remain vital for the growth of democracy.
