BENIN CITY – As both public and private primary and secondary schools across Edo State resume for the new academic session, the State Ministry of Education has commenced a comprehensive ‘Back-to-School’ Monitoring Exercise in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE development mantra.

The exercise, coordinated by ministry officials and agencies within the education sector across the three senatorial districts of the state, is aimed at strengthening compliance with government directives, improving the quality of teaching and learning, and promoting school accountability.

Teams were deployed to both public and private schools to check teachers’ punctuality, students’ attendance, state of infrastructure, and adherence to government’s educational policies.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, who led the monitoring, said the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to raising standards and ensuring the Edo child has access to the best possible learning environment.

“This monitoring is not a one-off event but part of our continuous efforts to maintain discipline, enhance quality, and sustain the reforms in our education sector,” he said.

Parents and teachers across the state expressed support for the exercise, describing it as a positive step toward consolidating recent gains in education.

The ministry assured that the monitoring would continue throughout the term to track progress, address challenges, and ensure that schools remain aligned with the government’s vision for educational excellence.
