IGUOBAZUWA – Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, on Tuesday visited the General Hospital, Iguobazuwa in Ovia South-West Local Government Area  for an on-the-spot inspection as part of the state government’s drive to revamp healthcare facilities under Governor Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda.

During the inspection, Idahosa directed the local government chairman, Hon. Nosakhare Edobor, to ensure that water supply within the hospital premises is restored within 48 hours.

He commended the Executive Secretary of the Health Management Agency, Dr. Nelson Tenebe, his team, and the medical personnel on ground for their dedication.

Speaking after the tour of facilities, the deputy governor said the hospital, which serves a large part of the region, requires urgent upgrades.

“This is the major hospital servicing the entire region, and the traffic here is quite high. The Governor directed us to inspect it in line with his campaign promise to ensure all 34 hospitals across Edo meet acceptable standards. The assessment is clear, the hospital needs transformation, and we will do the needful,” Idahosa said.

Earlier, the deputy governor visited the Odionwere of Iguobazuwa, Pa Edward Agbonifo Edoghayereobare Igbinovia, where he outlined the government’s blueprint for upgrading the hospital.

Planned interventions include the construction of a perimeter fence, renovation of doctors’ quarters, and provision of solar-powered lighting to improve clinical and surgical services.

The Acting Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Daniel Moses, thanked the government for the assurance of intervention, while Mr. Oronsaye Kingsley spoke on behalf of the host community, pledging cooperation with the government.

Dr. Tenebe, the Executive Secretary of the Health Management Agency, said a dilapidation schedule and perimeter fencing design have already been drawn up following the inspection.

He assured that with the planned revamp, the hospital would soon regain its pride of place as one of the oldest and most important general hospitals in Edo State.
