LAGOS – The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on FERMA, Rep. Aderemi Oseni, has said that stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State regret the party’s loss in the 2023 governorship election and are already working to dislodge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2027.
Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, stated this in an interview with newsmen on Sunday in Lagos.
He explained that the APC had also reviewed its performance in the recent by-election in the state, which the PDP won.
“Already, we have learnt our lessons. We have gone back to the drawing board in preparation for the general election. I believe our approach to the 2027 elections will be different. We are working hard to dislodge the ruling PDP.
“I am happy that everyone knows fundamental mistakes were made in Oyo APC. We have returned to the drawing board. It has become our collective responsibility to bring the party back on track,” Oseni said.
According to him, party leaders are rebuilding the APC in Oyo State to avoid another defeat in 2027.
On his personal ambition, Oseni said he was not overly ambitious but was positioning himself for higher responsibility.
He added that he would heed any call to serve the people of Oyo State at a higher level.
He disclosed that his support group, the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF), with no fewer than 200,000 members, had already commenced mobilising support for the APC ahead of the polls.
The group, he noted, was his own contribution to repositioning the party in the state.
Speaking on his political journey, Oseni, who is an engineer, said his decision to venture into politics was driven by his desire to serve the people.
He stressed that politics should not be left to people seeking personal gains rather than the public interest.
He further advised the APC to present credible candidates for executive and legislative positions in 2027 and to consult widely on the zoning of governorship tickets.
The lawmaker noted that Ibadan, which falls under Oyo South Senatorial District, had consistently produced governors, sidelining Oyo Central and Oyo North.
“Why is Ibadan always against zoning the governorship office to Oyo Central or Oyo North? This is one of the questions people have been asking.
“It is the responsibility of the elders of the state to come together, meet the people of Ibarapa, Ibadan, and Oke-Ogun, and work out an understanding on how to rotate the office of governor among the zones.
“It is possible, but we have to be deliberate and decisive about such an arrangement. With a clear understanding among the elders, we can rotate it zone by zone,” he said.
Oseni stressed that giving other senatorial districts the chance to produce the governor would strengthen APC’s chances in 2027.
He called on all stakeholders to work together for the rebirth of the party in Oyo State and beyond.
