BENIN CITY – The United Uzea Youth Association (UUYA), Ward 6 in Esan North-East Constituency II of Edo State, has appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo to ensure that indigenes of Uzea are given a fair chance to occupy both the Edo State House of Assembly and National Assembly seats come 2027.
In an open letter addressed to the governor and signed by its Acting President, Stephen Akhimiemona, the association noted that since the return of democracy in 1999, Uzea has not produced any legislator at either the state or federal level.
The group lamented that Uromi, though part of the same local government, had consistently occupied the legislative positions, leaving Uzea politically sidelined despite being a key stakeholder in the area.
“While we deeply acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of our Uromi brethren, it is only fair and just that the opportunity to represent the constituency be extended to Uzea,” the letter read in part.
The association stressed that its demand was rooted in the principles of fairness, equity, and inclusiveness, which the Okpebholo administration has pledged to uphold.
“We humbly appeal that, come 2027, the candidate to represent Esan North-East Constituency II in the Edo State House of Assembly be drawn from Uzea extraction.
“Such a gesture will not only strengthen our collective bond as one people but also promote justice, fairness, and unity across the constituency,” Akhimiemona added.
The group further expressed confidence in the governor’s “well-known sense of fairness and unwavering commitment to ensuring equal opportunities in governance and representation across Edo State.”
